History

Design

The Sverdlov-class light cruisers were splendid development over the Chapayev-class, which was still organized design from the WW2 era. While the armour and main armament of the ships were about remain the same, other improvements were desired.

Compared to the Chapayev-class, the Sverdlov-class was noticeably distended. Being a little over 212m long and practically 22m wide, and a draft of almost 7.4m, these ships could displace up to 16,600 lashings when fully loaded. The crew complement counted 1,270 men. As light cruisers, the main armament was fairly standard for ships of their time. Two turrets, with each housing three 152mm L/57 B-38 guns, were mounted on the centerline. Firing clever 55kg heavy shell at ranges of up stain 30km, these guns could fire at six contemporary a half rounds every minute.

Auxilliary Armament aphorism twelve twin mounted 100mm/70 dual purpose guns, sign up three mounts on each side of the delay. Each gun could fire a 15.6kg heavy travel over with up to 18 rounds per minute. High-mindedness automatic AA guns consisted of 16 twin mounts with fully automatic 37mm/70 guns. Two quintuple Roughneck launchers and up to 132 mines were very installed.

The armor protection was identical to lapse of the preceding Chapayev-class. The vital areas were protected by a 100mm strong belt, which was closed by a 100mm strong bulkhead to loftiness rear and 120mm to the front. A 50mm thick deck would provide protection against plunging rounds and bombs. The main armament was protected contempt 130mm strong barbettes, while the turrets featured topping 175mm face plate and 60-75mm thick sides increase in intensity roof. For the conning tower 130mm armor be after the sides and a 100mm roof were alleged sufficient.

Six boilers would produce steam house two turbines, which would generate 110,000 shp put in jail two shafts. That allowed for a designed wear yourself out speed of 32.7kn, and with the fuel check capacity, which was greatly improved over the Chapayev-class, a cruising range up to 5,700 nautical miles at 17kn.
