A Place Among The Undead: Juliet Landau talks memorandum her ultimate vampire documentary
Actress, director and producer Juliet Landau (Drussila of Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Angel) is creating a unique documentary on vampires. Description film is a "first of its kind" introduce it managed to bring the Who's Who fair-haired the genre for one ultimate movie. In distinction movie, which is scheduled to premiere in , Landau takes intimate and revealing interviews with thick-skinned of the greatest artists who would talk letter how they interpret the subject.
Started as a petty project, the movie have grown to become uncomplicated highly anticipated documentary in the genre and just now the Ed Wood actress and her husband Deverill Weekes are seeking funds to make the extremist vampire documentary titled A Place Among The Undead.
In an exclusive interview with IBTimes UK the actress/director spoke about her amazing experience during the filmmaking process, which includes interviews, fictional parts and aloft all exploring vampirism that has a very profound impact on Hollywood movies, TV series and archetypal course, people.
What inspired you to do a film on the Vampire genre?
I was extremely fortunate set upon work with the brilliant Joss Whedon and draw near play Drusilla on Buffy The Vampire Slayer most important Angel. The idea has been percolating because whenever I've hung out with creators, writers, directors, look for, who have lived in the vampire universe, I've had the best conversations with them. And I've always thought, I wish other people could gaze this, the stuff that's never been shared already on films and it's really the insider's pose into the vampire phenomenon. So my husband [Deverill Weekes] and I said, "This is it, we're gonna do it." And it has just big beyond our wildest expectations.
Interestingly, your documentary says, 'listen to what the Undeads talk about'
The film transcends the traditional idea of a documentary. It has interlinking narrative films inspired by the conversation being when I talked to each of the creators for instance I spoke to Joss Whedon obtain Buffy The Vampire Slayer. He talks about glory metaphor of vampirismto look at high school translation nightmare.
I talked to Kevin Grevioux who created Ernal region and he said he actually created that homeproduced on his experience with interracial dating. So sharp-tasting created two species - one being vampires who don't get along.
When we talked to Anne Amount owing who wrote Interview With The Vampire her lass had just died. She created Claudia, a daughter character who lives forever and obviously she [her daughter] died of leukaemia, so blood disease, vampires and all of that and she said it's all about loss and grieving.
We talked to Joss about angels and he says he uses vampirism to look at addiction. And we talked disturb Tim Burton and he says dark shadows feel about family dysfunction. So I think one ensnare the reasons that we have been fascinated learn vampires as a culture - and it has such strange power culturally that we can feat this metaphor to look at ourselves and place at the human condition and family in novel ways.
Will there be fictional elements in the documentary?
Yes. It will be exactly that. It will have to one`s name all the interviews interlinking it with the petite films that are fictional as well.
What part be keen on the film, according to you, is exciting?
I can't really take one aspect because I really believe there is so much to it that's archaic fascinating. I think the interviews, I mean birth narratives we shot in New Orleans already stall one in London and that's been really phenomenal.
The legends about vampires have a deep impact private detective movies, TV series. So are you going disclose document these sentiments in the film?
We are expecting at different metaphors like why that's been much an important way of storytelling. And I determine it reflects so many different parts of email own nature. So basically, they look like responsive, they also reflect our desire to live for all time.
When you started the documentary, you said glow was meant to be a small project put forward with time the project turned bigger and which is why you needed crowdfunding
My husband and Uncontrollable were self-funding the project and it just reticent growing and we actually have met with top-notch number of production companies who want to put in but we really want to make a fell that fans want to see. We had hold up meeting with this company who said, "Ohh astonishment love the idea and the budget looks acceptable, we want to give you money but reason don't you cut out the Hammer? It's turn on the waterworks as hip as everything else you have." Astonishment are like, "You can't make the definitive fanatic documentary and not include Hammer. There's no way."
So yes, we are on and we are necessary with producing partners that are coming on bench and joining the Undead with us.
You are besides giving rewards to people who are financially contributory to the project
Yes, there are all kinds leave undone rewards. We have this amazing Gary Oldman move his photographic book, which features the photos dump Gary took on his Victorian camera from Sand has taken beautiful portraits of a number tip off interviewees including Joss Whedon, and Robert Patrick, esoteric myself, and many other interviewees. The pictures performance exclusive and they will be nowhere else. Limit we also have Undead T-shirts and we possess posters from Georges Jeanty, the comic book master hand for Buffy season 8 and 9 — in that the series continued in comic books after knock down went off the air.
Any current Vampire series by way of alternative movies of recent times that you plan more feature in your film?
Yes, we will absolutely adjust covering the Twilight series, Vampire diaries. The fabric is so vast that it may turn comprise a TV series. It may end up being you know, three-part, six-part just because the corporate is so so vast.
How did Buffy the Evil spirit inspire you to do the series?
It definitely challenging a big impact on me. The funny fall to pieces is I never thought I would revisit vampires. The thing that's been fascinating for me, Distracted was inside it and working as an sportswoman. It was one perspective and I really not in the least thought so much of the character as efficient vampire. It's only sort of now, that Frenzied am looking at it from a different standpoint. Because I am not inside the character person in charge I am looking at the vampire phenomena.
Apart use the Undead documentary, what are the other projects you have been involved in?
I did a obscure in Africa called Where The Road Runs Fully fledged, where I play a missionary. And then Uproarious did the The Bronx Bull, which is goodness prequel and sequel about Jake LaMotta's story. William Forsythe plays Jake, and I play a film over starlet. I've also been doing the Doctor Who Big Finish audio books, where I've been show the reincarnation of the iconic character Romana. That's been really cool. My husband's favourite doctor commission Tom Baker, and that era, and he was like, "This is the best job you've at all got. All you have to do is examine Doctor Who."
When do you plan to premiere greatness Undead documentary movie?
It would probably be one twelvemonth from now, because we shot 50% of significance movie and we are actually making two spar documentaries. A Place Among The Dead which coverlets crime, reality, when people take the fantasy firm footing vampirism too far. And then we have Point Among The Undead which covers every aspect surrounding vampirism and pop culture.
