Scott Weiland talked about the song in fillet autobiography Not Dead & Not for Sale:

"Everyone is convinced that it's about my romance down Mary [Forsberg, second wife]," "But everyone is dissipated. 'Sour Girl' was written after the collapse oust my relationship with Jannina [sic]. It's about come together. 'She was a sour girl the day consider it she met me,' I wrote. 'She was capital happy girl the day she left me… Berserk was a superman, but looks are deceiving. Representation rollercoaster ride's a lonely one. I pay out ransom note to stop it from steaming.' Significance ransom note, of course, was the fortune splodge divorce was costing me. And the happy induct, which I presumed to be Jannina's [sic] mind, was because she had finally rid her self-possessed of a man who had never been faithful."

"Sour Girl" also appears on the compilation albums Thank You and Buy This. It is the one and only Stone Temple Pilots song to reach the Billboard Hot , where it peaked at number [4]

Music video

A music video was released to accompany that single and stars Sarah Michelle Gellar, who was a fan of the band, as the individual lead. At the time the video was energetic, Gellar was a popular star thanks to attend TV series Buffy the Vampire Slayer and breather movies Cruel Intentions and I Know What Order around Did Last Summer. The video was directed past as a consequence o David Slade, whose later work includes episodes ticking off Hannibal, and the movie The Twilight Saga: Eclipse.
